Advocating for the Business of Architectural Practices in Canada
The Canadian Association for the Practice of Architecture (CAPA) is a national non-profit industry association focused exclusively on advocating for the business interests of architectural practice in Canada.
CAPA will provide a coordinated, collective voice while advancing the conditions that allow architectural practice to thrive. It will also ensure that its members’ perspectives are represented through direct engagement with political leaders, participation in policy-influencing forums, and an active presence at national decision-making tables to improve business outcomes.
Why CAPA?
The practice of architecture is complex, nuanced, and distinct within the broader consulting sector, requiring dedicated representation and advocacy.
Architectural practices are also navigating growing pressures related to procurement, contracting, economic conditions, workforce challenges, project delivery, and rapidly evolving public policy priorities.
CAPA will work to improve the business realities of architectural practice within our quickly changing business and economic landscape.
Creating Conditions for Practice to Thrive
CAPA will champion its members’ collective interests and a business climate that recognizes the economic value of good architecture.
CAPA will advocate for:
- Fair, transparent, and effective procurement practices, fee frameworks, and contracting
- Stronger representation for firms in public policy discussions
- Greater engagement between architectural practice and the government
- A healthy, resilient, and competitive future for firms across Canada
Impact through
Collaboration
Through engagement with governments, industry partners, and key stakeholders, CAPA will collaborate with partners with complementary interests to strengthen advocacy efforts and create greater change.
CAPA Members
Current CAPA membership comprises twenty-three of Canada’s largest architectural practices. Membership intends to expand following CAPA’s initial establishment phase.
